This picture makes me angry.
I took this yesterday at "The Plaza" where we do our grocery shopping. I've seen this vehicle there many times, and each time I want to cover it up! Yesterday I decided to take a photo of it.
It makes me angry because it is rude, racist [because I'm sure they don't mean the English or perhaps New Zealanders] petty, small minded, ill informed and just bad manners. It also makes me want to live in a different country to them.
I've seen the owners of this vehicle and they're not special - at least not any more than me. They're white, and a bit ordinary looking but I suppose they are awesome because they were born in Australia and they have a 4WD.

Your post didn't make me angry - it made me thankful for people like you. There will always be morons out there, and I'll be ready for them.

Hi Tab - I've seen a few of these stickers around and it makes me thankful that we live in a country where we will never have to 'escape' because of political reasons, religious wars and terrorism. How would these people feel if, heaven forbid, the tables were turned and another country wouldn't accept us??
ReplyDeleteNot sure what it's like in Australia, but here in America I'm tired of all the illegals. It's especially bad in Texas. I'm not against people moving into my nation...as long as they do it legally. But I get real tired of paying to educate, and hospitalize, and everything else for people who don't obey the law!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, most of the objection here seems to be about people who come here as asylum seekers, which is actually only a few thousand people a year, and immigrants from middle eastern, asian and african countries.
ReplyDeleteContrary to popular belief these so called "illegals" are not at all illegal because international law states that anyone has the right to seek asylum.
Immigration is an issue here because we import a lot of skilled labour from developing countries and a lot of "proper australians" don't like it. Given that white people [read "proper australians"] only settled [invaded] here 200 years ago, its a bit rich to take that attitude I think. I was born here by a lucky chance - one that does not make me any more deserving of a place here than anyone else.
Many many more people are here illegally because they are backpackers, tourists and other like people who overstay their visas, at least 90% of people here that are classed as illegal are in that category, but we turn a blind eye because they are more acceptable in our culture. Its a rubbish attitude I think. And no matter what you think, theres no need to be rude about it and put crude stickers on your car.
